If I could give Bay Area Design and Construction six stars, I would. This was the first time I actually enjoyed working with a contractor – Payman and the rest of the team were a pleasure to work with. We did a major remodeling work on our house – completely redid four bathrooms, kitchen, two fireplaces in family and living rooms, floors, tons of plumbing and electrical, all paint and just about everything else.

I could go on and on about the quality of work, but just look at the pictures – everyone said that’s the best-looking job they ever saw – both the craftsmanship and the way everything turned out. That’s the #1 thing that, I believe, sets them apart from others – their folks and people they bring are true craftsman that do an impeccable job – tile and kitchen surfaces, carpentry, floors, and everything else were done incredibly well.

Another positive was the way they handled complications that inevitably happen during any large project – nothing ever goes 100% according to the plan, and no large and complex task is ever 100% perfect on the very first attempt. There was nothing major, but there were minor hiccups, scheduling complexities because of the COVID and supply chain issues, we changed our minds here and there (I suppose everyone does occasionally) – they handled everything with ease and utmost professionalism. That is what I liked about Payman the most – he honestly wanted to do the right thing and make us happy, which is a rarity. I would definitely recommend and use them again!

“Adding another 5-Star review for Payman and Bay Area Design & Construction. We did a demo and rebuild of our house, and Payman and his team did an amazing job throughout the entirety of the project.

We interviewed a lot of contractors before we decided to go with Payman. A few things which set him apart from the other contractors we talked to were: 1) How honest and upfront he was about the details of the construction, possible issues and cost overruns. 2) The quality and attention to detail he had in his past projects (we were able to see the houses for one of his previous clients, and another new construction he was selling).

As the project started, Payman was really efficient at managing the project and communicating the details and deadlines. We had a weekly meeting with him to discuss progress, any issues which came up and also a list of decisions he needed from us to make sure the project stayed on track. He is also always reachable and available to answer any questions. 

His crew was also always professional and courteous and Payman made sure he dealt with the subcontractors so we didn’t have to worry about dealing with multiple people. He has good connections and recommendations for various vendors, which helped us select a lot of premium finishes at a discount.

After the house was done and we moved in, Payman was always responsive and quick in resolving any issues which came up … and he went above and beyond at times when he wasn’t really required to.

After months of exploring, discussing and reviewing various companies, we selected Payman as the contractor for our home remodel project. We were adding 50% more area to our existing home with new bed/bath/family rooms, upgrading an existing bathroom, removing a brick fireplace and a few other smaller things. Since week 3 of our 20-week project, we have been referring him to any friend who was looking for a contractor. Here are the things we would like to highlight for what we got (and judging by so many reviews online, what you will get too): 

Integrity:

Payman walked the talk every step of the way that got us comfortable that he is doing the right thing by us, and in the right way. One example: We had inadvertently given an extra weekly payment check to him. It may have probably been months, if at all, for us to have noticed it. However, Payman proactively reached out to us and cleared this up with us.

Project Timeliness: 

Our project was happening in the middle of the pandemic with all the supply chain challenges. Windows needing 4 months, and a door with 6 months lead time are just a couple of examples. Payman’s anticipation of the challenges and pushing us – for example – to order the doors and windows on Day 1 after we got the city permits – was much needed (If he tells you to get something by a date, please do it; else, you will be the one gating your project; not him!).

Payman plans and sequences the work of his various teams very efficiently. He got us so used to having someone at work in our house that the few days where it was silent felt very odd even it was to wait for city inspectors, or materials to arrive etc

We moved into our home within 1 week of the committed time; and even that delay was not because of Payman, but because of delays in our finished materials coming in etc.

Communication: 

Payman is super responsive to communication via email, text and in person. We cannot recollect any big or small situations where he did not get back to us within a day. 

The weekly in-person meetings really do work well. If you are well prepared with your list of things to discuss, it will help you (he will always come with his list and be prepared).

Costs: 

Overall – as Payman himself will tell you – he is not the cheapest contractor but he is also not on the high side of costs. After reviewing a few quotes, we felt his quote stayed true to what he said.

‘Change orders are where contractors make their profits’ – this is what we had heard time and again from many people. Over the course of all the change orders that needed to be completed, we found Payman’s quotes to be consistently fair and reasonable. 

All of the above would mean nothing if the quality of work was not good quality. And this is an area where Payman’s team really excels in delivering very high-quality work.

“We used Payman (owner of Bay Area Design) for a large house remodel and extension in the middle of the pandemic in 2021. 

Payman impressed us from the start because he gave us so much details and information to think about in our very first meeting and he was extremely knowledgeable about the city codes, what would work and what makes sense etc. Our interactions with him was excellent at each stage of the project from planning to execution. Our end product is better than we imagined. 

Payman was great also in advising us on what additions make sense and what might not really be good bang for our bucks. I personally appreciated this a lot because it meant that he was watching out for our interests (he would have made more money just saying yes to all the extras we wanted!). 

The project was completed on time, which is a miracle even under normal circumstances, let alone a pandemic with supply chain issues and it was not way over budget (except for add ons that we wanted).

Payman and his team did an extensive renovation in our house. They were really professional and finished the job in the original time planned.
